Mental strength and the Tourette

Updated: Apr 19

In this post, I would like to talk about my mental strength and how the Tourette is related to it. In my opinion, mental strength is a concept that describes the inner strength that every man has which helps him deal with all the obstacles and difficulties that life puts in front of us. It’s strength that builds over time, and we need to nurture it for it to grow stronger and give us the strength to deal with life. It shows up differently in every person, and it is built up by the hardship that he has gone through in his life and strengthens him. I feel that my mental strength is stronger than an ordinary person because of the Tourette. Even though I tend to curse and hate the Tourette, I must admit that it has made me a stronger and more sensitive man. I feel that as a result of dealing with the Tourette I have learnt a lot about myself and discovered a lot of powers that I wasn’t aware of their existence. Because of all the obstacles and hardship that the Tourette has made me go through, and the ordinary person didn’t have to go through, all my life has been a one big coping that never ends and faces me with new obstacles and challenges. My coping started when I finished high school, and the army didn’t want to draft me, and I had to find a lot of mental strength to deal with the disappointment and the rejection. It took me some time, but I found my inner strength to fight for three years with the army, but eventually, I succeeded to volunteer for the military to the Apache squadron where I served for an incredible ten years. Also, during the service, I went through some tough times, and the Tourette raised its head all the time to remind me that it’s there, but luckily I had amazing friends and people that supported me and helped me find the inner strength that helped me deal with all the hardships. Until today when I think about my time in the army, I feel pride and a heartstring for the incredible years that I had the privilege to serve in the squadron. Even when I finished the army and went into the work market, it wasn’t easy, and I got a lot of rejections. I can’t say that it was all because of the Tourette but the Tourette affected my self-confidence which failed me. I felt like I didn’t get an equal opportunity like ordinary people because of the Tourette. In the end, through friends, I succeeded to get into the working market since then I am working. I feel blessed that I have work that I love with people that appreciate me and help me when I need help. I go to work every day with a smile and a desire to contribute. In conclusion, the way that I see the mental strength is a strength that builds through experiences and hardships that every man goes through in his life. We need to nurture it because it gives us the strength to deal with every obstacle that life puts in front of us. In my opinion, my inner strength is stronger because of the Tourette and all the obstacles that it has put in front of me. I need to nurture it to deal with the Tourette and to improve my quality of life. I believe that I am on the right path and I just need to keep going on the same path and not to stray from the path.
