Biofeedback and Tourette

In this post, I would like to talk about biofeedback and my experience with this treatment. In this treatment, they are attaching sensors to your head which monitor and collect data about our brain’s activity throughout the procedure. They are showing you a movie where the screen is black, and you don't see anything, and the better you control your tics, the better and more precise the picture becomes.  This treatment’s objective is to help the brain control the Tourette and the tics by itself. During the time of this procedure, the mind should gain the ability to control the Tourette and to do it all the time without outside help. A few years ago, I got a recommendation from the doctor that treats me to try and do it because she thought that it would help me deal with the Tourette. So I gave it a shot and tried it for a couple of months. I was going to beer Sheva twice a week for sessions, and they let me pick the movie that I wanted to see during this procedure. It was an expensive treatment, but we thought that if it will help me, then it's worth the money. Also in the sessions, it wasn't all the time good results, and there were sessions that the data was worse than the one before. I remember that in the treatment it showed progress in most of the sessions but after I finished the treatment and between the sessions, I still was in the same condition. My tics were high, and I couldn't get into the situation where my mind was able to control my spasms like it should have been doing because of the Biofeedback. So, after a couple of months of trying and seeing that it didn't help me, we stopped doing this procedure. I was disappointed because at the start I made good progress, but it didn't last long before I reversed into the condition that I was in before. I remember that I was frustrated that it didn't help because I thought that it would help me and that maybe we had found a treatment that would help me deal with the Tourette and make my life easier. I know that it helps for some patients with Tourette and that it is a proven treatment. But for me, it didn't help even though I came with an open mind and a desire to make it work. But I guess that every person reacts differently to the same treatment. I hope that it will help other people with Tourette and that people won't be discouraged because of the experience that I had. I recommend that everyone with Tourette give it a try.
